Two words: Happy Hour
Happy hour has been a constant source of life in this season, not because sipping an ice-cold beverage is an elixir turning down the volume of my thoughts (although I must be honest, some days this is what I crave), but rather for the simple intentionality of doing just as the name describes – carving out a specific hour in the day devoted to happiness.
Chris and I started this habit early in the quarantine days; set a time at the end of the day where we meet on the patio most times with a cocktail of sorts (some days without) and we play a game of cribbage or just unwind. During this time we set aside the stress of the day, talk about fun things or nothing at all, and just enjoy each other’s company.
As this season wears on, our dedicated happy hours have become less frequent, but it’s a habit I hope to fight for because it really is life giving to intentionally set aside time to unwind and connect after a full day.
